By a lonely harbour wall I heard a young girl calling
“Michael they have taken you away
for you stole Trevellian’s corn, so that our young might see the morn
now the prison ship lies waiting in the bay.”
CHORUS: low lies the fields of Athenry
where once we watched the small freebird sing

In Dublin’s fair city, where the girls are so pretty
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone
as she wheeled a wheelbarrow, through streets broad and narrow
crying cockles and mussels, alive alive O
CHORUS: Alive alive O, alive alive O
Crying cockles and mussels
Alive alive O
She was a fishmonger, and sure ’twas no wonder

Brian, I would like to thank you on behalf of every Irish descendant I know. I’ve been looking for a good acoustic transcription of almost every song you’ve done a video for, and your stylization has moved me. I relish my strong Irish heritage, and am constantly looking for new ways to share it with people. This song, like your others, has given me a chance to bring our culture into the hearts and minds of others with only a guitar and good spirits. After studying you for some time, I felt that I should thank you for inspiring me to broaden my music and my life with the beauty of Ireland. I hope one day to get the privilege to play with you in person. If you are ever in the states, please feel free to drop me a line. It would be an honor to meet you.
Cheers
